Daffodil International University (DIU) recently hosted a touching event, “Parents’ Day,” bringing together young students and their parents in an emotional gathering. Held at the university’s campus, the event saw students embracing their parents with heartfelt tears. Organized to strengthen the triangular bond among students, parents, and faculty, this event aimed to instill moral and human values. Over 2,000 students and their parents participated in this significant program.
The event, held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the university’s Shadhinata Auditorium in Birulia, Savar, was part of DIU’s “Art of Living” course. The special guest for the event was Mr. Asif Iqbal, Founder of Ganchill Music & Asix Group and CEO of Hamid Group. Among others present were DIU’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Registrar Prof. Dr. Md. Nadir Bin Ali, students, parents, and faculty members.
The program highlighted the importance of moral development and the practice of humanity alongside academic studies to shape students’ futures. DIU regularly organizes this initiative as part of the “Art of Living” course to foster students’ responsibility towards their families and to strengthen familial bonds.
The day-long event included several unique activities: singing the national anthem together, students expressing unspoken gratitude to their parents, washing their parents’ feet as a symbol of respect and love, and spending the entire day with their families on campus. Many parents embraced their children with deep affection, acknowledging the effort to bridge modern-day familial gaps. Parents praised the initiative for encouraging emotional connections and mutual understanding.
Himel, a Computer Science and Engineering student, said, “Although I spend time with my father at home, I never thought I would get the chance to wash his feet like this. There are so many things I never get to tell him every day. Through this event, I could express my gratitude, and it feels incredibly relieving.”
Special guest Mr. Asif Iqbal remarked, “We often realize the value of family bonds too late. My parents have been the inspiration behind all my creations. Once we lose these people, the harsh realities of life become evident.”
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to value their parents’ guidance and stressed the importance of family bonds as part of their education.
DIU Founder Dr. Md. Sabur Khan urged parents to actively engage in preparing the younger generation for their futures. He emphasized the importance of nurturing students not just as employees but as future entrepreneurs. Dr. Khan also explained the global need for entrepreneurship and shared his own journey as an entrepreneur, crediting his parents for their vital role in his success.
