DIU recalls martyred intellectuals of Liberation War

Daffodil International University (DIU) organised a discussion Friday recalling the ultimate sacrifice of the country’s leading intellectuals, who were killed by the Pakistani occupation army and their local collaborators on December 14, 1971.

Prof M Lutfar Rahman, vice chancellor of the university, was present as the chief guest while Prof SM Mahabub Ul Haque Mazumder, pro-vice chancellor, was the special guest, said a press release.

Prof M Lutfar Rahman said, “The Martyred Intellectuals Day marks as one of the most tragic days in the country’s history when renowned academics, doctors, engineers, journalists and artists and other eminent personalities were dragged blind-folded out of their homes in the capital and killed in cold blood.”

These shining individuals were the guiding light for Bangalis and instrumental in the movements against disparity and repressive measures of the Pakistani rulers, thus contributing to the Liberation War, he further said.
