BCB summons Saifuddin for statement against board

All-rounder Saifuddin was summoned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Tuesday for giving out irrelevant statements in the media.

Right-arm pacer Saifuddin met BCB cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Younus and other influentials on the matter and later apologized in the media.

The cricketer from Feni Monday claimed that no one from the team management had contacted him for the last five-and-a-half months while he was out with an injury.

Saifuddin has recently returned from England following check-up on back pain, the one which had forced him out of competitive cricket since the T20 World Cup in United Arab Emirates last year.

The cricketer following the meet with the board rectified his statement.

“I spoke to the media [Monday]. I think I shouldn’t have spoken that way [against the board]. I gave the statements out of disappointment. I was part of the rehab and the board had sent me to London for treatment. I did not mention this rather said things against the board and I apologize for that,” said Saifuddin while speaking to reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Saifuddin, set to play for Abahani Limited in the upcoming Dhaka Premier Division Cricket league, earlier Monday had said, “I am not in the national side and I am not thinking of the national team. When I get back in the side I will think again. I have been out of the field for five-and-a-half months. No one from the national team’s coaching staff or management contacted me. So, what can I say by myself? When the team feel I am required, I will talk about the national team. Now I am in Abahani and my focus is here.”

The 25-year old since his international debut in 2017 played a crucial role in the Bangladesh pace attack alongside Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman.

The left-handed batsman is also considered handy down the order with the bat and has two half-centuries under his belt in ODIs.
