The RMG industry of Bangladesh is committed to carrying forward the accomplishments made on workplace safety and workers’ rights and will continue to be a preferred choice of global buyers as the safest apparel sourcing destination in the world.
A paradigm shift had taken place in the areas of structural, fire and electrical safety at the workplace with the support from international brands, ILO, and the Bangladesh government and earned global recognition.
Now the industry‘s priority is to continue the momentum.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made the remarks during a meeting with Dan Rees, Director of Better Work program, held at BGMEA’s PR office in Gulshan, Dhaka on March 18.

Chair of Standing Committee of BGMEA on RSC Nafis-Ud-Doula, Managing Director of Sparrow Group Shovon Islam, Vice President of BKMEA Fazle Shamim Ehsan were present at the meeting.
They had discussion on the activities and progress of Better Work program in improving working conditions and competitiveness in the garment industry of Bangladesh.
The BGMEA leaders said the industry has not only made exemplary strides in workplace safety but also gained considerable experience and developed capacity in safety monitoring.
The sector is now looking ahead and working on to sustain the culture of safety with support of stakeholders.
Better Work is a program of the International Labour Organization (ILO) jointly managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Mohammad Anis Agung Nugroho, Program Manager, and Abu Yousuf, National Operations Manager, Better Work also attended the meeting.
