A former female student of Islamic University in Kushtia has brought a sexual harassment allegation against two Dhaka University students.
The victim filed a written complaint to the DU Proctor office yesterday (May 18, 2022).
The complaint stated that the DU students–Rakibul Hasan and Rafayet—sexually harassed her at Suhrawardy Udyan on the evening of May 16 while she was talking with her friends near the Shikha Chironton of the campus.
The accused Rakibul Hasan is a student of the Japanese Studies department and a resident at Bijoy Ekattor Hall while the other accused Refayet is a residential student of Haji Muhammad Muhsin hall. His department could not be known immediately.
Earlier on May 15, a DU female student also filed a written complaint against Rakibul Hasan to the DU Proctor office bringing sexual harassment allegations.
In the complaint, the former Islamic University student said “Three youths came to us on a motorcycle. They asked us why we were sitting there. Later, they tried to snatch our valuables,” read the complaint.
They beat up one of the friends of the victim and took away the victim behind the Shikha Chironton and harassed her, it said.
As the victim started shouting, they fled the scene, it stated.
Contacted, DU student Rakibul Hasan denied the allegation and claimed himself innocent.
DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said they got the complaints and were working as per the rules of the university.
