Journalists in Kushtia announced on Friday a three-day fresh protest programme to press for the arrest of the killers of journalist Hashibur Rahaman Rubel.
The protest was announced under the banner of Kushtia District Mafassal Sangabadik Forum, the journalist leaders said. The decision was made at a meeting held at a restaurant in the district chaired by the Forum president Hashibur Rahman Rizu on Friday.
The three-day programmes include human chain, procession and submission of memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
As part of their fresh announcement, the journalists will form a human chain in front of Kushtia Thana intersection on Saturday demanding to arrest the killers involved in Rubel’s murder at 11:00am.
They will submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner on Sunday and will bring out a protest procession on Monday.
They announced the demonstration programmes instead of celebrating the founding anniversary of Kushtia District Mofassal Sangabadik Forum, the forum president Hashibur Rahman Rizu said. Rapid Action Battalion and the police arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the murder but could not reveal the fact.
They would continue their demonstration in the district town till their demand for arresting the people involved in Rubel’s murder was met, he added. On July 3 night, Rubel received a phone call and went outside of his workplace at Singer crossing in the city, informing his office assistant that he would return soon.
Rubel remained missing since then. Later, his half-decomposed body was recovered from under the under-construction Shaheed Golam Kibria Bridge at Kumarkhali in Kushtia on July 7. Mizanur Rahman, uncle of Rubel, filed a murder case with the Kushtia police station in this connection.
