NSU launches media and journalism program

North South University (NSU) has launched a new department ‘Media and Journalism’ under the Department of Political Science & Sociology with the objective of increasing skilled workforce in the world of mass communication and journalism, a press release said Saturday.

On the occasion of inauguration of the Media and Journalism Program, a roundtable discussion session titled ‘Kemon media graduate chai’ (what type of media graduate we want) was held at NSU on Saturday. The discussion session was held in the Syndicate Building of the University.

Professor Dr. Gitiara Nasreen, Professor, Dept. of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka, said, Students should understand the language of media. In addition, they should participate in research. At present media research in Bangladesh is not progressing properly. A large budget is required for research.

Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, chair & director, SIPG, NSU presented details about the curriculum of the program.Also, the guests who came to the discussion session expressed their excitement to be a part of this new journey of North South University. Also, other guests in their speeches clearly highlighted the continuous success of NSU and the importance and necessity of Media and Journalism department.

Anisul Hoque, Prominent writer and associate editor of The Daily Prothom Alo said, Freedom of expression in the media is very important.But like other countries around world we have some limitations. In the meantime, he also said, this subject also needs more development in our country.

Asif Bin Ali, Lecturer, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, NSU moderated the program. Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, NSU presided over the program.

Hasibur Rahman, executive director, Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI), Syed Ishtiaq Reza, CEO and editor-in-chief, Global Television, Ashraf Kaiser, CEO of Benchmark PR, Syed Gousul Alam Shaon, managing partner and country head, Grey Advertising Bangladesh Ltd., Tushar Abdullah, CEO, Ekhon TV, Abdun Noor Tushar, CEO, Gati Media Ltd, Khairul Basher, Head of Communications, Grameenphone Ltd, Syed Ashfaqul Haque, executive editor, The Daily Starand other dignitaries were also present.
