Over 400 BNP members sued over Faridpur clash

Over 400 activists of BNP and its affiliated outfits have been sued in connection with a clash during a rally organised to mark the party’s 44th foundation day.

An FIR was lodged at Faridpur Kotwali police station on Monday on a complaint from sub-inspector Masud Fakir, said Suman Ranjan Sarkar, additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle).

Thirty to top leaders of the party, including former MP of Faridpur-1 constituency Shah Md Abu Zafar, general secretary of Krishak Dal Shahidul Islam Babul, joint secretary of central Mohila Dal Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, and convener of district BNP Syed Modarres Ali Isa, have been named as accused in the case while others are unnamed.

According to the complaint, the accused attacked cops and injured at least four of them, vandalised police vehicles and obstructed government work.

On Sunday, police tried to prevent a rally that was being held on the court premises marking the 44th foundation day of BNP. A clash ensued with activists of the ruling Awami League and its outfits.

According to BNP leaders, at least 25 of their activists were injured in the attack.

Additional SP Suman said the accused were identified from video footage of the attack.
