Students block roads in Farmgate demanding trial of fellow’s death

Students of Government Science School and College, Tejgaon Model School and College and Tejgaon College blocked the Farmgate crossing in front of Al-Raji Hospital and the Bijoy Sarani crossing in Dhaka on Monday, following death of a Class X student of Government Science School and College in a road accident on Sunday.

The protesting students blocked the Farmgate crossing and the Bijoy Sarani crossing at about 11:30am and they continued their demonstration till 1:30pm, to press home their demands of quick trial in the case and safe roads.

Later, police and teachers of the educational institutions managed to convince the students to withdraw their demonstration for the day, promising them to take immediate action in connection with the accident, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division deputy commissioner Azimul Haque.

The police also arrested the driver of the microbus, Ziaul Haque, raiding Ashulia area on the outskirt of the capital on Sunday night, the police official added.

The demonstrators said that they would take to the streets on Tuesday again to continue their protests and the demonstrations would go on until their demands were fulfilled,

Ali Hossain, 17, a Class IX student of Government Science College, was run over by a microbus in front of BG Press in Tejgaon while going to school on Sunday morning.
