Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order as police produced Shakir before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

Earlier on September 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Mehedi Hasan placed Dr Shakir on two-day remand in the case. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir on September 14 had placed Dr Shakir and his alleged associate Abrarul Haque on four-day remand.

Abrarul Haque on September 19 gave confessional statement in the case.

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested the duo recently for allegedly instigating youths, including the seven in Cumilla who have recently went missing after leaving their homes in the name of performing “hijrat”, to join militancy. They were allegedly gathering members for banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam, arranging military training for them and helping them to perform hijrat.
