A police officer was arrested after a woman sued him for reportedly raping her while she was under mandatory institutional quarantine for Covid-19 in the Sadar Upazila of Khulna.
Soon after the metropolitan police arrested him on Monday, the accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mokleshur Rahman was sent to jail via a court order.
Shahjahan Sheikh, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Media Wing Chief) of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), confirmed the matter.
He said the young woman, 22, was sent to the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) in Khulna Sadar for a 14-day mandatory quarantine soon after she returned from India on May 4.
The woman filed a written complaint with Sadar police station on Monday accusing ASI Mokleshur Rahman of raping her at the quarantine facility on Friday night, he added.
The woman was later moved to KMP’s Victim Support Center, according to the police official.
