Keep vigil against abuse of Islam for terrorism: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday urged all religious minded people including Aleems and Ulemas to remain vigil so that none could tarnish the sacred religion Islam by taking different paths.

 “Let not contaminate our sacred religion by taking different means. Aleem, Ulema and religious minded people must keep their eyes on the matter,” she said.

The prime minister said this while inaugurating 50 more model mosques and Islamic cultural centres across the country in the fourth phase joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.

She said that Islam is the religion of peace, but some elements who are engaged in terrorism and militancy are tarnishing the image of this religion of peace.

“They have taken the wrong path. We all have to pay special attention to this” she said.

The PM said that the last judgment will be given by the Almighty Allah.

“Who believes in Islam and who does not, we can not judge that. It is very much regretful that sometimes we see some people unnecessarily hit other religions or different Mazhabs of Islam also.”

She said that this is totally against the lesson of Islam and ideology of the Prophet.

“This kind of attitude is not acceptable from anyone. Let’s not lose faith on Allah. If you go to judge the other people then you lose your own faith on Allah. Allah will judge everything, we have to go with this belief. Allah will decide who will go to heaven and who will go to hell.”

She questioned what is the reason to lose faith on Allah. Everyone will perform rituals of their own religion and It is stated in the Constitution of Bangladesh.

“One can not to to heaven by killing people, killing innocent people will led one to be landed in the fire of the hell. people have to be cautious about this matter,” she stated.

She said that all irrespective of religion and cast gave their blood to attain the Independence of the country.

“Everyone will perform their religious rituals keeping communal harmony. We run our country keeping faith on Allah. Everyone has the equal right and we believe in that.”

Terming militancy and terrorism as the menaces of the society she said that these take away lives of people, and mislead them.

“Steps must be taken to keep away from these menaces,” she advised.

She urged the Aleems, Ulemas and Khatibs to protect the innocent children from the vested quarters who sometimes lead them to the path of confusion.

“These children must not be involved with terrorism and for that they have to be taught properly that Islam is the religion of peace,” she said.

She requested all to remain vigil so that none could be addicted with drugs.

She also asked all to remain alert regarding spreading rumours, corruption and torture of the subordinates.

In this connection she requested the Imams for specially deliver Khutba during Jummah prayers.

Regarding the establishment of model mosques, the prime minister said that her government has constructed the mosques so that people can follow the right path of Islam, and could know and understand the essence of Islam accurately.

Saying that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was dedicated to the religion, she highlighted his government’s steps in promotion of Islam.

She mentioned the establishment of Islamic Foundation, purchase of a ship named “Hijbul Hagar” for transportation of Hajj pilgrims, took measure to organise Bishwa Ijtema in Bangladesh and allocated land in Tongi for it, gave land to Kakrail Mosque and Baitul Muqarram National Mosque, introduced Quaran Telwat in BTV and Betar, introduced holiday on Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Earlier at Ganabhaban, PM Hasina released commemorative postage stamps and first day cover inscribed with the picture of model mosques on the occasion of the construction of a total of 564 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila of the country.

A video-documentary on the model mosques and Islamic cultural centres was screened at the function.

With State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan in the chair, secretary of the ministry Kazi Enamul Hassan delivered welcome address at the function.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah moderated the programme.
