98 percent of the construction work of the most awaited Bangabandhu Tunnel of Karnaphuli River at Chattogram has been completed.
This is a mega project of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and it will complete the 100 percent of its construction work likely in Spetember. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the tunnel before the next national polls.
PM inaugurated the construction work of the project on 24th February 2019. Before this, in 2016 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chinese President Xi Jinping laid the foundation stone. China and Bangladesh has spent 10, 000 crore to implement this project.
Bangabandhu Tunnel is the first tunnel road in Bangladesh and also the largest tunnel in South Asia. It connects 2 area of the river started from beside of Naval Academy Patenga to Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Factory.
The tunnel constructed under 150 feet of water and its length is 3.43 km, inner diameter is 10.80 meters.
One of the most important economic corridors of the country will be built after the Bangabandhu Tunnel under Karnaphuli will be built from the southern bank of the river to Cox’s Bazar through Anwara. As the opening date of the tunnel is approaching, changes are coming in terms of trade. Industrialists are working with the goal of doubling export and trade.
From Bangabandhu Shilpanagar in Mirsarai, Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar will become a special economic zone. At least 20 industrial establishments have started construction. All in all, the port city of Chittagong is on the verge of realizing a true commercial capital on the model of Shanghai in China by utilizing the infrastructure facilities.
Experts say, it will make a strong network in Dhaka- Coxs Bazar trade.
On the other hand, The Payra, Mongla and Bepapole port of Southwest region will be directly connected via Dhaka through Padma Bridge as a result.
It will impact the banking sector specially and the banks are preparing to open the new branches at that area. 20 banks open almost 25 sub branches and agent outlets. Only UCBL has opened its 3 sub branches at the area.
The area is changing surprisingly with the new industrial areas. Akiz Group, S. alam Group Partex Group and many other companies have bought plots to create industriest at that area.
Workers also passing their busy times with last time work.Project Director Harun or Rashid said, “The work is almost finished and soon it will be openend.”
