Post Flood Effect: Reconstruction of Ctg-Cox’s Bazar rail line started

The Dohazari Cox’s Bazar railway line has suffered extensive damage due to the recent severe floods in Satkania. Renovation of flood-damaged railway lines has started in Temuhani area.  Work has been going on since last Sunday.

There is anger among the local people because the renovation work has started without constructing a new bridge culvert on the railway line. However, the railway authorities say that 3 more culverts will be constructed in Temuhani area.

But it is not possible before the dry season. The work on the flood-damaged railway line is progressing at a fast pace. Rocks, pebbles and some soil were moved away by the flow of water in an area of only 250 meters.

As a result, the line has given a little in some places. In some places, holes have been formed due to the movement of stones and pebbles. Sand, pebbles and stones are deposited by slightly raising the given line jug. Basically this is how the reform will be done. Besides, it will be done as per the advice given by the technical team. But all in all, the repair work of the damaged part can be completed within a week.

Mofizur Rahman, Project Implementation Officer of Railways and Project Director of Dohazari Cox’s Bazar Railway Line, said that the renovation work has started. However, there has been some suffering in the transportation of goods. Due to the water in the banks on both sides of the railway line and the lack of road for vehicles in the affected areas, it is difficult to pick up the goods. The project director also said that the renovation work will be completed on time.

Besides, the remaining work in Dohazari, Satkania, Lohagara and Harbang areas will also be completed within the next month. These works are also progressing at a fast pace. After completing the work within the pre-scheduled time, the train will start running on an experimental basis in the first week of October.

Dohazari Cox’s Bazar railway line will be inaugurated in the last week of October. But the date has not been finalized yet.

He said, there will be 3 more culverts in Temuhani area. But these are not possible at the moment. Because where the culvert will be done, goods cannot be taken by car. During the dry season these culverts will be constructed by making alternate lines along the railway line.
