A public hearing and discussion meeting was organized under the National Sanitation Strategy Action Plan 2020-2024 on Wednesday at the Tejgaon Training Institute premises of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).
Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department ABM Amin Ullah Noori was present as the chief guest in the discussion meeting. Chairman of BRTC Md. Tajul Islam (Additional Secretary) was present in the function as President.
At this time, BRTC’s senior officers-employees, stakeholders, news workers of various electronic and print media, students and common passengers were also present. The discussion meeting was moderated by Mohammad Saidur Rahman (Deputy Secretary), GM (Prash & Personnel).
BRTC chairman Md Tajul Islam (Additional Secretary) gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the program. In his welcome speech, he sincerely thanked all present including the chief guest.
At this time, he said, the main purpose of this program is to discuss how to increase the service quality and to identify the problems and solve them through appropriate steps to increase the service quality of BRTC. Before 2021, BRTC could never become a profitable company.
He also said that BRTC is currently being transformed into a profitable institution by adopting various policies under the guidance of the Honorable Minister and Secretary.
BRTC’s main objective is to provide the highest level of service. Making profit along with providing services, because income has to be paid. Earlier, despite the arrival of new cars, there were no perquisites, instead the employees were left with salary arrears month after month. In the year 2023, after 23 long years, BRTC will provide retirement entertainment allowance. Already, city transport services, metro rail services, tourist bus services, elevated expressway bus services, smart school bus services have been launched. BRTC buses are operating in Dhaka city with a lot of shortfalls in urban transport routes.
He said that 340 CNG buses from Korea will provide better services.
In the speech of the chief guest, Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Noori thanked the chairman of BRTC for organizing the event beautifully. At this time he said today we will hear from the service recipients. How else to increase the quality of service, service is the main objective of BRTC. Despite the strike blockade, most of the buses including 400 trucks of BRTC are plying.
At this time, stakeholders, trainees, students, common passengers, journalists of various media raised their questions and opinions in the public hearing.
Ferdous Khan, Vice Chairman of Row Safety Foundation, said, I am very happy to know that BRTC’s service quality has improved. He urged the drivers and helpers to use elegance.
Anik, a student of Dhaka University, said that it is very nice to go to the university by riding the red bus of BRTC. He requested to introduce VTS in BRTC staff buses.
Media activist M Shimul Khan advises BRTC drivers not to overtaking. and suggested opening a hotline.
Finally the chairman and secretary of BATC listened carefully to the suggestions of the service takers.
In the question and answer session, BRTC chairman Tajul Islam said that training programs are being continued to produce skilled drivers. BRTC’s various depots/units along with bus and truck cleaning activities are ongoing. Drivers and helpers are being trained to change behaviour.
Director Finance and Accounts of BRTC) Dr. Anupam Saha (Joint Secretary) thanked everyone present along with the chief guest and said that by organizing public hearings to improve the quality of service, the complaints and suggestions received will be resolved as per the instructions of the secretary and chairman.
The organization will continue to strive to achieve the highest goals by ensuring transparency and integrity.
