No outdoor celebration on 31st night: Home minister

No outdoor programme will be allowed after 6 pm to celebrate the 31st night, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Tuesday.

However, the indoor programme will be allowed on this occasion, Kamal told reporters after emerging from a meeting on law and order held at his ministry office in Dhaka ahead of the 31st night.

The government has undertaken stringent measures to protect law and order ahead of the January 7 national election, he said.

The members of different law enforcement agencies will remain vigilant across the country including the capital Dhaka to avoid any untoward incident centering on the 31st night.

The government will ensure four layers of security in Dhaka as well as throughout the country, he said.

Police forces will be deployed at all churches nationwide from 24-26 December, he said, calling upon the people to report any untoward incidents elsewhere in the country by calling 999.

Lanterns are prohibited from being lit on the 31st night, and police will be stationed at all checkpoints to prevent anyone from engaging in racing motorbikes or cars, he said.

Security forces will be actively working to prevent drug abuse on the 31st night and additionally, all bars will be closed on this occasion, said the home boss.
