Faruque Hassan, President of the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has emphasized the pivotal role of the media in reshaping the global perception of Bangladesh’s garment industry. He came up with the observation during his meeting with Farida Yasmin, President of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday.Faruque Hassan expressed thanks to the media for its significant contributions to the apparel sector of Bangladesh, particularly in promoting a positive image both locally and internationally. He also acknowledged the media’s influence in dispelling myths and showcasing the industry’s achievements and positive stories to the world.
During the meeting, President Faruque Hassan highlighted the remarkable progress made by the garment industry in important areas such as workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and workers’ rights and well-being. Bangladesh has earned global accolades, positioning itself as one of the safest and greenest apparel sourcing destinations worldwide, he remarked.Despite the transformative socio-economic impact of the industry on Bangladesh, President Hassan said, many success stories often went untold, and the industry was sometimes portrayed negatively with biased information.
Faruque Hassan called for the cooperation and support of the media in removing such misconceptions, urging journalists to highlight the industry’s achievements and its potential for further positive impact.
