BGMEA, Singapore Fashion Council discuss potential collaboration

A meeting was held between the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Singapore Fashion Council (SFC) in Singapore on Thursday. the meeting aimed at identifying and fostering collaborations between the two organisations to enhance the capacity of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, and SFC Chief Executive Officer Zhang Ting Ting, represented the respective organisations at the meeting, according to a press release. Shams Mahmud, chair of BGMEA standing committee on foreign mission cell, and Sanjay Kumar Naha, director, Rose Intimates Ltd were also present at the meeting.

From SFC side, other attendees at the meeting were Leonard Choo, Director, Industry Development; Tan Huey Chyi, Director, Sustainability; JulynnTay, General Manager, DORS; Lim Su Juan, Manager, Support and Liu Li Wei, Executive, Sustainability. discussions during the meeting focused on avenues to strengthening the capacity of Bangladesh’s garment industry in the fields of fashion design, technology, and product development, particularly high-value apparels using manmade fibers (MMF).

They also showed interest in fostering collaboration to facilitate knowledge exchange and expertise in technology adaptation, skills development, innovation, resource efficiency, and circularity within the industry. Faruque Hassan highlighted Bangladesh’s strong emphasis on diversifying into high-value products and keeping pace with the evolving trends and technologies in the fashion world.

He stressed the importance of partnership between BGMEA and SFC to support the garment industry of Bangladesh in developing its capabilities and enhancing competitiveness. he also requested Singapore Fashion Council to consider collaboration with BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) to develop the knowledge and skills of its students in fashion design, product development, the latest technologies and other relevant fields.
