Palak gives four strategic directives to DCs to combat rumours

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said that the government issued four strategic directives to the deputy commissioners (DCs) to fight out rumours on social media and ensure cyber security.

The directives are – creating awareness on digital and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy, ensuring the best use of technology, strict application of existing laws and coordination among police administration, academia, media and private sector.

Palak said he made the directives as the DCs wanted to know about their job over combating rumours, cyberbullying against students and cyber crimes.

He was talking to reporters after attending a session at the ongoing DC Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.

Noting that the DCs proposed for arranging different types of trainings at district level and setting up cells for technological development, the state minister said, “We have assured them of taking necessary steps to this end and setting up the cell at division and district level”.

Pointing that the Prime Minister has issued a directive over spreading the startup culture outside the capital, Palak said, “We have called upon the DCs to launch a startup challenge at the district level. We will provide funds, and mentoring and coaching support to encourage the startups and women entrepreneur.”

The government’s target is to develop a smart employment ecosystem, he added.

The state minister also said that he urged the deputy commissioners to use the high speed ‘GPON’ internet of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in the 18,000 government offices at upazila and district levels.
