Professor Abu Ahmed has joined as Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh on 1 September. He is a leading economist of the country and a capital market expert. He singly contributed significantly to the development of the capital market in Bangladesh. He was educated in Dhaka, Islamabad, and York Universities. Professor Ahmed joined the economics Department of the University of Dhaka as lecturer in 1976 and taught extensively on various issues. He held many important positions including that of Chairman, Economics Department, University of Dhaka; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka. Member, Revenue Reform Commission, GOB. He also held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Govt. owned ‘Bangladesh Shilpa Bank’. At present, he holds positions as Director, Chittagong Stock Exchange (nominated); Director, Bakrahbad Gas Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of PetroBangla; Member, the Syndicate of the Jagganath University; Member, Selection Committees for Professorships of the Rajshahi, Sylhet Shahjalal, Chittagong University; Member, Advisory Committee, of the BSEC. Professor Ahmed writes extensively on economic and capital market issues and his writings influence heavily the decision-making process of the policy makers.
