A video clip of such a horrifying and horrifying incident has spread on social media.
The investigation revealed that this brutal incident took place in Savar’s Ashulia. One of the helmeted policemen seen in the video is Arafat Hossain, investigation officer of Dhaka North Intelligence Police.
Locals say that during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, students gathered in front of the Ashulia police station. The police fired at them. As a result, many who took part in the movement were shot dead. The police took the victims to another location in a van. Some were even burnt to death in a police car.
A student on condition of anonymity said that on August 5, the police fired indiscriminately. Many people were shot dead around the police station. A few were shot dead in a police car.
Fahima, a shopkeeper in front of Ashulia police station, told Dhaka Post that we have seen the video. The video was taken from in front of our Ashulia police station. We closed the shop in fear that day. There were some sand bags near the Ashulia police station, which was seen in the video.
Another shopkeeper Manwar told Dhaka Post, “My shop was closed on the 5th.” The next morning on the 6th, I came in front of the Ashulia police station and saw some burnt bodies in the police van. However, the number of bodies could not be specified. The video of the pile of dead bodies in the van is in front of Ashulia police station.
Locals have identified the policeman wearing a helmet in the video as Arafat Hossain of Dhaka North Detective Police. I tried to contact Arafat Hossain on mobile phone but his number was closed.
Riaz Uddin Biplab, in-charge of Dhaka District North Detective Police, told Dhaka Post that the video is unclear. However, Arafat Hossain is working as our Dhaka North detective police investigation. I am not sure if that policeman in the video is Arafat. However, many people have been calling me since morning to tell me about Arafat.
When Arafat was asked where he was on duty on August 5, he said, “We Gowanda policemen were on duty at Savar police station.” But I am not sure where Arafat was on duty that day.
