BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday demanded that the interim government ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in the killings during the recent student-led mass movement.
“I call upon the interim government to support the families of the martyrs and the injured, and to bring those involved in the killings to justice, ensuring exemplary punishment for them,” he said.
He made the demand after visiting injured students receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).
He slammed the Awami League government for committing a “horrific genocide” to suppress the students and people involved with the mass uprising
On behalf of BNP, Fakhrul said he visited the victims of the movement earlier at the same hospital.
“I came today also to stand by the victims who are here. We are trying to support the victims on behalf of the party,” he said.
The BNP leader expressed gratitude to the students and the masses who sacrificed their lives, shed blood, and were injured in the movement to free the country from autocracy and fascism.
He said the ousting of the despotic regime created an opportunity to establish a government truly representing the people.
Fakhrul said a government of the people should be established in the country after completing necessary reforms.
The BNP leader spoke to the injured, their families, and provided them with financial support on behalf of their party.
He also talked to the doctors about the treatment of those wounded and receiving care at the hospital.
