The international squash tournament is being held again in Bangladesh under the sponsorship of Ispahani. The tournament ‘Ispahani 4th Bangladesh Open Squash 2024,’ will feature a grand event with two international competitions and one national competition, just like in the past three years. Today, on September 29, 2024, the three trophies of the tournament were unveiled at the ‘Meet the Press’ event held at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of the Olympic Bhaban in Dhaka. This four-day international event, approved by the Bangladesh government, the World Squash Federation, and the Professional Squash Association, will feature two tournaments (one for men and one for women). The matches will take place from September 1 to 4 at the Army Squash Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. This year, Bangladesh’s Saimun and Aminul will compete alongside professional squash players from India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, and New Zealand.
It is noteworthy that the PSA (Professional Squash Association) is the global governing body for professional squash. Additionally, in the Satellite Tour organized for women, Bangladesh’s top six female players will compete against Sri Lanka’s renowned professional female player, Kuruppu. It should also be noted that a national-level competition has already been organized in various groups with 90 selected players from 19 clubs and institutions, including Rangpur, Chattogram, Gopalganj, Dhaka, and Jhenaidaha Cadet Colleges.
The chief guest at the ‘Meet the Press and Trophy Unveiling Ceremony’ was the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Sanaul Huq. Also present were Brigadier General G. M. Kamrul Islam, the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation, SPC (Retd.), and Mr. Omar Hannan, the General Manager of Ispahani Group, along with other officials from Ispahani Group.
At the trophy unveiling ceremony, Mr. Omar Hannan expressed his gratitude on behalf of Ispahani Group to the organizers for their close involvement in hosting an international tournament in Bangladesh. Brigadier General (Retd.) Kamrul Islam sincerely thanked Ispahani Group for sponsoring such a large squash tournament in his speech. He further stated, “Despite various limitations and challenges, we have tirelessly worked with limited resources over the past three years to revive the nearly obsolete squash in Bangladesh and have begun a glorious journey forward. With the cooperation of everyone involved and the proposed complex in Banani, we will achieve glory for the country through squash, including winning medals.”
Ispahani has always been active in promoting the popularity of squash in Bangladesh. Previously, Ispahani has sponsored other tournaments organized by the Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation. Additionally, Ispahani consistently supports various sports, including cricket, football, basketball, chess, and golf.
