DIU holds learning gap mitigation for students

A day long workshop on ‘Learning Gap Mitigation and Psychosocial Support for Students in Post COVID-19 Education System’ organized by Daffodil International University’s Student Affairs was held at the Daffodil International University (DIU) campus in Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia today on Saturday (October 02, 2021). More than hundredprincipals and vice principals from around the country participated in this workshop. The day-long program included workshops, open discussions and cultural events.

Professor Nehal Ahmed, Chairman, Board of Secondary and Higher Education, Dhaka, was present as the chief guest at the workshop. Prof. SM Amirul Islam, Controller of Examinations, Prof. Abu Taleb Md. Moazzem Hossain, College Inspector, Prof. Mohammad Abul Mansur Bhunya, School Inspector of Secondary and Higher Secondary Dhaka were present as the special guests. Professor Dr. SM Mahbub Ul Islam Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor, DIU, Professor Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean, Academic Affairs  also spoke at the inaugural session of the workshop. Syed Mizanur RahmanDirector of Student Affairs of DIU conducted the workshop.

While addressing as the chief guest, Professor Nehal Ahmed saidthat there is a deficit in everything in human life. None of us are 100% perfect. Now there is a deficit in our education sector. Because for the last year and a half, our educational institutions were closed due to the Corona pandemic. However, Professor Nehal Ahmed thinks that there is nothing to worry about this teaching deficit. “We will be able to overcome the teaching deficit in any way we can,” he said. But the social deficit that has been created among the students is difficult to overcome. He called upon the teachers to focus on filling this social gap.

Professor Nehal Ahmed also said that due to extra online reliance we observed social loneliness among the students. They are now going to outside for meeting with friends, but they did not talks with each other. Everyone is stuck on their mobile phones. He commented that students need to be brought out of this social loneliness. In the meantime he thanked Daffodil University for organizing such a timely workshop.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor of DIU Dr SM Mahbub-ul-Haq Majumder said, teachers are the artisans of the nation and leader of nation building. He urged the teachers to come forward to fill the gap that has been created in the field of education during corona Pandemic for the last one and half years. He stressed on using technology to take forward education. He added that Daffodil International University is a leading university in the use of technology. The university has been running online classes for more than ten years now.

Speaking as the special guest, Prof SM Amirul Islam said that education means proper self-realization. In that case it can be said that Corona has given birth to the right perception among us. The Corona epidemic has taught us an extreme lesson to change over time and face new normal situation. The epidemic has forced educational institutions to enter the world of online education.

Professor Abu Taleb in his speech said that human civilization has advanced through joint efforts. People have brought civilization to today’s stage by working with team spirit. So, we need concerted efforts to fill the gaps that created in our education sector due to covid-19.

Professor Mohammad Abul Mansur Bhuyan said, “Corona epidemic has not damaged our education system, but our education system has also improved.” If it weren’t for Corona, it might have taken us longer time to enter the world of online learning. Now we have come a long way on the path of digital Bangladesh.
