Vice Chancellor of North South University (NSU), Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Ph.D., engaged with the working committee members of the North South University Alumni Association Australia (NSUAAA) in an online event on October 23, 2024. This was Professor Chowdhury’s first meeting with an alumni group outside of Bangladesh since assuming his position as Vice Chancellor. Dr. Samiksha Koirala, Director of the Office of External Affairs at NSU, also attended the session as a special guest, providing valuable insights during the discussions.
The event, titled “Welcoming Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and Exploring Strategic Collaboration Between NSU and NSUAAA”, focused on fostering collaboration between the university and its alumni community in Australia. The session commenced with an introduction of the NSUAAA working committee members, who shared their mission, vision, core values, and an overview of past achievements and future plans. This set the stage for a productive dialogue between the alumni association and the university leadership.
The event began with a brief introduction of the NSUAAA by Mr. Faysal Bashar who highlighted the organisation’s purpose, unique flat structure, and inclusive message that promotes unrestricted engagement from all community members. He emphasised the justification for the association’s existence and its mission to include members from diverse backgrounds. Later, Mr. Ahmad Husain and Dr. Kamal Mahmud, both representing the very first batches of the university along with few other alumni stressed the importance of the alumni association in adding value to both its members and the alma mater by supporting them through personal and professional engagements in various capacities.
In his speech Professor Chowdhury expressed his high appreciation for the efforts and enthusiasm of NSUAAA and offered insights on how NSU and its alumni in Australia can work together to strengthen the global alumni network. He was particularly impressed by NSUAAA’s flat organizational structure and strategic planning, praising their dedication to executing these strategies through meaningful activities. He outlined a strategic plan emphasizing the importance of partnership, mutual support, and community engagement, with the goal of further elevating the university’s standing both locally and globally. He also highlighted the significance of research in achieving global success for the university and detailed his priority plans to enhance infrastructure and foster deeper industry collaboration. One of the highlights of Professor Chowdhury’s speech was his announcement of initiatives aimed at enhancing alumni engagement, including the development of an online platform where all NSU alumni will be registered and provided with ID cards granting access to the university campus. He reiterated that in his first month as Vice Chancellor, he has already initiated steps to make these ideas a reality.
The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose, which further strengthened the bond between NSU and its alumni in Australia. The event was masterfully hosted and led by Ms. Sadia Huq, who kept everyone connected and engaged throughout the evening.
This meeting marked a significant step forward in deepening the relationship between North South University and its global alumni community, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both the university and its graduates worldwide.
