Swachip President Dr Abu Sayed placed on 5-day remand

Judge Afrin Ahmed Happy of Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday placed Dr Abu Saeed, president of Brahmanbaria Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) and general secretary of the district unit of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), on a 5-day remand in the explosives and sabotage case.

After his arrest on Sunday, police produced him before the court on Sunday evening and appealed for a 7-day remand. The learned court fixed the hearing on Monday.

According to the police and the case statement, Anisur Rahman, a resident of Brahmanbaria town’s Sherpur area, filed a case with the Sadar Model Police Station on October 25 on charges of explosion and sabotage during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4.

In the case, 240 people, including two former ministers of the district, have been named as defendants along with 200-300 unknown people.

Dr Abu Sayed is the vice-president of the district Awami League. Besides, he is the founder chairman of Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital.
