The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has realized Taka 217,59,61,858 from the defendants as compensation for the poor justice seekers during last 15 years.
The organization has published the information on its legal aid activities from 2009 to 2024 in its website.
According to the reports, some 11,10,036 people have so far received legal help from the government expenditure from 2009 to September this year in 4,03,201 cases from 2009 to March this year. A total of 2,03,032 cases have been settled by giving legal assistance during the period . Some 4,42,696 justice seekers were given legal advices at that time.
A total of 28,016 people got services from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 8,74,661 got from 64 district legal aid offices, 28,853 persons from the Employees Legal Aid Office in Dhaka and Chattogram and 1,78,506 from the toll free hotline call centre.
In addition, around 17,328 people received legal help from the office before introducing the national help line.
Besides, the organization has solved 1,29,038 cases through alternative dispute resolution(ADR) service out of 1,42, 612 cases. Total beneficiary of the ADR project are 2,43,512 persons, of them 1,21,630 people received legal assistance from inside the prisons.
The government has been providing legal assistance to the financially insolvent and poor people through the NLASO.
The Chief Justice has recently instructed the organization to provide legal assistance at the lower courts for criminal cases by appointing lawyers.
