The United Nations Global Compact Network Bangladesh celebrated Sustainability Day 2024 on Wednesday at Hotel Westin Dhaka.
The event, themed “Building Resilience: Advancing Sustainability,” highlighted the crucial period in Bangladesh’s journey, as it navigates a shifting political landscape, adapts to evolving regulations, and prepares for graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category.
This year’s theme, “Building Resilience: Advancing Sustainability,” reflects the critical moment in Bangladesh’s history, with a change in the political landscape, an evolving regulatory environment and its upcoming graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category.
The event fosters dialogue and collaboration on these pertinent issues, aiming to set the path for a resilient and sustainable future.
The event brought together the United Nations, Government, Private Sector and Civil Society.
The Inaugural Session comprised Mr. Farooq Sobhan – Network Representative of the UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh, Mr. Stefan Liller Resident Representative, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Christian Brix Møller Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Antonio Alessandro Ambassador of Italy to Bangladesh, H.E. Ambassador M. Riaz Hamidullah, Additional Foreign Secretary (Multilateral), The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt. of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh and the Chief Guest Ms. Lamiya Morshed Principal Coordinator, Sustainable Development Goals, of the Chief Advisor’s Office.
The Chief Guest Ms. Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator, Sustainable Development Goals, Chief Advisor’s Office, shared her views on accelerating SDGs in Bangladesh and announced the launch of the UN Global Compact Network Bangladesh Report – Annual Report 2023-2024.
The discussions throughout the Event covered critical sustainability topics: Strengthening Food Security across the Value Chain, Advancing Business & Human Rights in Bangladesh, Harnessing Technology & AI to Tackle Corruption in Bangladesh, Roadmap towards Building on the EU regulations and its impact on Bangladeshi companies, and Building CMSME capacity towards the LDC graduation of Bangladesh.
The event was concluded by Ms. Shahamin S. Zaman, Executive Director of United Nations Global Compact Network Bangladesh.
