Health service at doorstep of 23,000 people

The construction and finishing tasks for launching Lakhhichap 10-bed Mother and Child Welfare Centre in Kachua area of Lakhhichap Union in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila is going to be finished by the end of this month, said Nasir Hossain, assistant engineer of Nilphamari.

Md Saifullahil Azam, director general of the Directorate General of Family Planning, visited the centre on Friday morning as part of his inspection of under-construction and under-repair infrastructure in Rangpur division.

About 23,000 people of the area would get health services from this centre, said Azam.

“No longer, they have to travel to the district headquarters to get health services,” he added.

Mothers and children at the grassroots level in Nilphamari region were largely deprived of health services, he mentioned.

The 10-bed mother and child welfare centre has been constructed at a cost of Tk4, 62,53000, said Engineer Nasir.

Dewan Morshed Kamal, Rangpur divisional director of the Family Planning department, Md Shaukat Mohibur Rob, superintending engineer of Rangpur Public Health Engineering department, Executive Engineer Md Sahabul Alam, Mozammel Haque, Nilphamari family planning deputy director, Dr Rokhsana Begum, Nilphamari family planning assistant director (clinical contraception), and Jagannath Roy, upazila family planning officer, were present during the visit.
