IU CSE dept faces session jam

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of Islamic University in Kushtia has been limping with session jam. Students from 2016-2017 session to 2022-2023 session are stuck in limbo.

Classes of the undergraduate students, who enrolled in 2022-2023 session, have not started as yet. Besides, master’s second semester lab examinations of the students of 2016-2017 session and the first semester final examinations of master’s students enrolled in 2017-2018 session have yet to be taken.

Sirajul Islam Siraj, a student of 2016-17 session, said, ” It takes six years to complete a four-year undergraduate programme while two years to finish a one-year graduate programme here.”

Recently, students of the CSE department submitted a memorandum to the department chairman to resolve the problem, he said. They placed a nine-point demand to the chairman.

Students have alleged that classes and examinations are not being held on time as well as the publication of results is being delayed. They pointed finger to the internal conflicts among teachers.

The department has 17 teachers for about 350 students. However, seven teachers of them are now abroad. They are on leave.

Professor Rabiul Haque, chairman of the CSE department, said, “Our department has been stuck in session jam. Students submitted a memorandum with a nine-point demand to address the problem. Their demands are reasonable, and we will discuss them in the upcoming academic council meeting. We are committed to resolve the problem promptly. ”
