BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has undergone a biopsy and is now in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital in the capital.
The BNP leader’s personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain told this to the media during a press briefing Monday.
“Advance medical centers, required for her better treatment, are not available in the country,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed in the briefing.
“So her family members applied to take her abroad for treatment,” he said, adding, “But, we are so ill-fated that we live in such a country where even a former prime minister does not get permission for that.”
“Considering her health conditions, the government should give approval for treatment abroad,” Fakhrul said.
The senior BNP leader further said, “We believe, the cases filed against Khaleda Zia should not hinder her foreign visit for medical purposes.”
Besides, Khaleda’s physician Dr Zahid said earlier, a medical board has recommended for Khaleda Zia’s proper treatment abroad. Following that recommendation her family applied to the government but that was rejected.
“She was brought to the Evercare Hospital as she has been suffering from fever for past few days,” the doctor said.
