A Rajshahi University student, Sami M Sajid of the Theatre department, 2019-20 session, was allegedly bullied, and tortured mentally as well as physically by some 10 or 12 seniors on the rooftop of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall on Thursday, all night long.
He has been admitted into the university medical centre.
The main accused persons are Master’s students of the Theatre department – Topu and Rubel -and a 2nd-year Honours student of the same department, Abdullah Al Masud.
According to some friends of the victim, Sajid was summoned to the rooftop of Shamsuzzoha Hall by some seniors of Theatre department. Later, he was released at around 4am. He was admitted into the university medical centre on Friday noon when he fell sick.
Refuting the allegations, Abdullah Al Masud said some seniors of Theatre department and Sajid were at the rooftop of Shamsuzzoha Hall and Sajid was not tortured at all.
Theatre department acting chairman Amiruzzaman said they heard some seniors of the Theatre department tortured Sajid all night long. “We will take legal action after learning of the overall matter,” he added.
University proctor Md Leaket Ali said the university proctorial body is monitoring the matter. Legal action will be taken against the culprits.
