The government has increased the minimum bus fare by 42.85 percent to Tk10 following a demand of the owners after fuel price hike.
Minibuses will charge Tk8 as minimum fare.
Earlier, the minimum fares of bus and minibus were Tk7 and Tk5 respectively.
Besides, the intercity bus fare has been raised to Tk2.15 from Tk1.42 per kilometre. Long-haul buses will charge Tk1.80 per kilometre from now on.
“The increased bus fares will be applicable from tomorrow,” BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder said after a meeting Sunday.
Intercity bus fare is set to go up by 26.5 percent and inter-district bus fare by 27 percent.
The government committee, led by the BRTA Chairman, has set the new fares.
The rise in fare will not be applicable for CNG-run buses
From now on, fare for inter-district buses would be Tk 1.8 per km, instead of Tk 1.42 (27 percent hike).
Bus fare for Dhaka and Chattogram would be Tk 2.15 for per km, instead of previous Tk 1.70 (26.5 percent hike).
Minibus fare for Dhaka and Chattogram would be 2.05 per km, instead of the previous rate of Tk 1.6.
BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder presided over the closed-door meeting.
Members of the government committee, representatives from energy division, BPC, transport leaders and Road Transport and Bridges Ministry attended the meeting.
Transport associations, mostly those of the owners, enforced an indefinite strike of public transport, trucks and lorries from Friday morning.
