Covid-19: 4 more deaths, 178 new cases reported

Health authorities in Bangladesh have registered 4 more deaths and 178 more infections from Covid-19 across the country in last 24 hours to Sunday morning.

With the latest figures, he death toll reached 27,895 and the case tally climbed to 15,71,013 in the country so far, according to the daily statement issued by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

The current positivity rate was recorded at 1.17 percent as the health officials tested 15,234 samples across the country.

The recovery count rose to 1534,825 after another 190 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 97.70 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.78 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

Among the deaths reported today, two died in Dhaka, and one each died in Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions.

The DGHS said among the total 27,895 fatalities, 12,164 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 5,663 in Chattogram, 2,046 in Rajshahi, 3,600 in Khulna, 946 in Barishal, 1,267 in Sylhet, 1,365 in Rangpur and 844 in Mymensingh divisions.

The Covid-19 victims’ gender breakdown shows that 17,856 of the total deceased across the country were men and 10,039 were women.

The country’s maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
