Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became champion and Jahangirnagar University clinch Runners Up in the ‘5th National Girls Programming Competition (NGPC-2021)’.
The closing and prize giving ceremony of the ‘5th National Girls Programming Competition (NGPC-2021)’ was held on Wednesday at the International Conference Hall of Daffodil International University, located in Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia.
The competition was organized for the 5th time by the Girls Computer Programming Club of Daffodil International University with the support of ICT Division of Bangladesh Government and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).
Professor Dr. Md. Kaykobad, Department of Computer Science and Engineering of BRAC University attended the award giving ceremony of NGPC 2021 as the chief guest and chief judge and handed over the prizes to the winners. EnamulKabir, Director, Planning & Development, BCC and Md. Iftekhar, Deputy Chief Operator, SSL Wireless were present at the programme as special guests.
Presided over by Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University, the program was also addressed by Professor Dr. SM MahbubUlHaqueMajumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, DIU, Dr. TouhidBhuiyan, Head, Department of CSE, Dr. Sheikh RashedHaiderNuri, Associate Professor, department of CSE.
The BUET students team ‘Team Has No Name’ became the champion in the competition. The first runner up was Jahangirnagar University team ‘Ordinary’ and the second runner up was the RUET students team ‘RecycleBin’.
Addressing as the programme as chief guest Dr. Md. Kaykobad said, “in order to build a digital Bangladesh, the country has to stand on its own feet now. We have not been able to move forward in the way our neighboring country India has advanced in the field of technology. This requires more patronage at government and private levels. We have a lot of talented children. Those who are skilled in ICT, should be brought forward. The youths of our country are performing better in the ICT sector of the developed countries of the world. So it is easy for us to create a nation skilled in programming. We just need a little patronage”.
An international programming competition will be held in Bangladesh next year, informed Dr. Md. Kaykobadexpressing hope that the Bangladeshi girls would be able to participatehugely in that competition. Addressing the students, he said, “You should improve your programming skills. Sharpen your problem-solving skills”. At this time he thanked all the organizing bodies, including Daffodil University, for arranging such competition every year.
In his speech, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan said that this competition is not the last competition. Daffodil University will be hosting this competition regularly as building skilled human resources in ICT sector is one of the goals of Daffodil University.
He said that the girls who participated in this competition, Daffodil University is eager to extend all cooperation for them. Efforts will be made to ensure that these talented children use their latent talent. At this time, he proposed to arrange a boot camp by Daffodil University.
He told the students that achieving good results in exams should not be the main objective, rather, the main goal of a student should be to acquire the skills needed to boosts their career.He also urged the students to acquire various soft skills.
