The court has fixed January 14 for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in 11 cases filed on charges of sabotage and sedition.
Khaleda Zia was scheduled to appear in these cases on Monday, but she could not attend the court due to illness.
Tapas Kumar Pal, additional public prosecutor of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, said that in this context, if his lawyer applied for time, the court granted it. Later, Judge Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court fixed the new date.
Out of the 11 cases, a date of hearing was fixed for the receipt of charge sheet in a murder case filed at Jatrabari police station. Today was the day for hearing the charge sheet in 10 other cases.
On January 25, 2016, a case of sedition was filed against Khaleda Zia in the court for making controversial comments about the number of martyrs in the liberation war.
Meanwhile, on the night of January 23, 2015, there was a petrol bomb attack on a passenger bus of Glory Paribahan in Jatrabari’s Duttapul area. 29 passengers of the bus were burnt and one died under treatment.
A case was filed in Jatrabari police station on January 24, accusing Khaleda Zia of ordering the incident. In addition, in 2015, eight cases of sabotage were registered in Darus Salam police station area. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was accused in these eight cases.
Apart from Khaleda Zia, the notable accused in these cases are BNP leader Amanullah Aman, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohail and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
