After passing the four-year honors, one can apply for the BCS examination, if there is less than second class in the educational life, it is not possible to apply for the BCS examination. Due to this limber condition of participating in the exam, the number of applicants for each BCS exam is gradually increasing.
More than 4, 35,190 applications have been submitted for the last 43th BCS examination; this is more than the total population of some small countries, even then the total number of vacancy posts in BCS is around 2,000. In other words, more than 4 lakh young people will be excluded from the BCS dream race in this time.The number of BCS applicants is high, while the number of vacancy posts is very low.
So it is easy to guess that the main target for the job of educated youth in Bangladesh is BCS. There was a general idea that the students of social sciences and arts faculties took part in the BCS exams. But now it is seen that many students from science department, BBA, IBA, even many engineering universities like BUET are taking part in the BCS examination. Students think that if they do well in BCS exam, they get a job without any lobbying. Everyone believes that the benefits and security of BCS are much higher now.
Research Institute, ‘Policy Research Institute’ executive Dr. Ahsan H. Mansoor said, “Three things work in the case of BCS. Firstly, the initial salary which was not good before is now very good. Now the salary is above 40,000tk at the beginning. Secondly, they have many opportunities. Thirdly, there is a power for them.
The government has a list according to the rank of various government posts, which is called Warrant of Presidency. If anyone can get a job in BCS, they can get a place in the Warrant of Presidency. Again, by joining in the BCS cadre officer through the Public Service Commission, one can reach the highest policymaking level at a time. And government monograms can be used on visiting cards, which definitely enhance social status.
Thirdly, there are more scholarships in this job than in other jobs. BCS has an opportunity to pursue higher education abroad with scholarships and educational leave. Fourthly, the government appoints someone from one office to another for a certain period of time to run its various institutions, this is called deputation. It also provides good financial benefits.
Fifthly, if one can work in BCS, he will get various training opportunities in the country and abroad. In addition to making oneself proficient, there is an opportunity to travel to different countries with government money and to benefit financially. And lastly, government officials can take lien on their own initiative and earn good money by working in various government or non-government organizations at high salaries, and at the end of the lean he/she also has the opportunity to return to the original job and work as usual.
