Specialists of Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), with support from BRAC Bank, have organized a daylong training session on ‘Prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing’ in order to enable the banking professionals in northern Bangladesh to handle the subject better.
The daylong training programme was held at MedhaOnushilon Kendra of Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) in Thakurgaon on October 30, 2021, a press release said.
A total of 60 banking professionals from 22 banks participated in the workshop. BRAC Bank was the Lead Bank to organize the training session in Thakurgaon for the nominated banking professionals from Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts.
A.B.M. Zahurul Huda, General Manager, BFIU, graced the occasion as the chief guest. ChowdhuryMoinul Islam, DMD and CAMLCO, BRAC Bank, was the chair of the session, and Sheikh Mohammad Ashfaque, Head of Branches, BRAC Bank, was present as a special guest.
ZobaidaAfroze, Joint Director, BFIU; Md. Rokon-Uz-Zaman, Joint Director, BFIU; and FuaraKhatun, Deputy Director, BFIU; conducted the workshop as resource persons.

It is of utmost importance to continue to inculcate AML awareness among banking professionals. The trainers covered a whole range of money laundering and terrorist financing issues including the global and national initiatives for AML/CFT. They also highlighted the regulatory requirements, risks of trade-based money laundering, credit-backed money laundering, methodology of AML ratings, lapses found in AML/CFT inspections and how to resolve them, as well as the role of branch managers and BAMLCOs in improving the bank’s AML rating.
