A meeting was held between visiting delegates of the European Union and the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in Dhaka on March 15.
The EU delegates included Jordi Curell Gotor, Director for International Affairs in Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DGEMPL); Ivo Schutte, Deputy Head of Division, Asia and the Pacific-Regional Affairs and South Asia, European External Action Service (EEAS); Alessandro Tonoli, Policy Officer, Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE), European Commission; and Benedikt Bünker, Policy Officer, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DGEMPL), European Commission.
Charles Whiteley, Ambassador, EU Delegation to Bangladesh; Jeremy Opritesco, Deputy Head of Mission, EU Delegation to Bangladesh; Abu Syed Belal, Trade Advisor, EU Delegation to Bangladesh were also present at the meeting.
While speaking at the meeting BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said Bangladesh and the European Union have long been sharing friendly relationship which has deepened and grown stronger over times.
He expressed thanks to the European Union for its support for the betterment of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
Faruque Hassan hoped the European Union will continue providing its support and cooperation to Bangladesh in the coming days.
Former BGMEA President Md. Shafiul Islam MP, BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Directors Asif Ashraf and Tanvir Ahmed, Executive President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem, Vice President of BKMEA Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, and former BGMEA Director ANM Saifuddin also attended the meeting.
