BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has urged the Textiles Tuesda and Jute Ministry to emphasis on developing capacity of local textile mills in manufacturing synthetic yarn and fabrics having high demand in the garment industry of Bangladesh.
He made call during his meeting with Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi (Birpatik), at the ministry on Monday.
BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam attended the meeting among others.
“The growing eco-consciousness and care for sustainability among customers is driving them towards non-cotton, particularly manmade fibers. Using own fabric will be a prerequisite to avail the European GSP Plus when the current EBA phases out. So we need to improve the capacity of out textile sector,” said Faruque Hassan.
He also called upon the Textile and Jute Ministry to carry on more research initiatives to produce fabric using jute and bamboo as demand for environment-sustainable clothing are increasing globally.
