BGMEA seeks duty benefits in EU after LDC graduation

BGMEA seeks Germany’s support to have duty benefits in EU for 12 years after LDC graduation.

Newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh, H.E. AchimTröster, paid a courtesy call on BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at BGMEA office in Dhaka on October 4.

BGMEA Vice President ShahidullahAzim, Vice President Miran Ali and Ms. CarenBlume, Head of Development Section at the Embassy were also present at on the occasion.

BGMEA president Faruque Hassan welcomed H.E. AchimTröster, new German Ambassador and apprised him of the present situation of Bangladesh’s apparel industry, its challenges, opportunities and future priorities,a press release said.

Highlighting the progress made by the industry in the areas of workplace safety, environmental sustainability and workers’ welfare, Faruque Hassan requested the envoy to promote the RMG industry positively to his government, buyers and other relevant stakeholders.

He also sought Germany’s support in the continuation of duty-benefit for Bangladesh in the European Union for 12 years after the graduation from LDC in 2026 to ensure smoother transition.
