BGMEA seeks Foreign Minister’s support in boosting trade

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has stressed the need for intensifying diplomatic efforts to explore trade opportunities and facilitate exports including ready-made garments, a press release said Thursday.

He said more constructive dialogues and engagement with governments and stakeholders at international level are required to ensure Bangladesh’s economic growth continues even after the LDC graduation on meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 6.

Faruque Hassan sought stronger role of missions abroad in exploring new market opportunities.

Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen assured BGMEA leaders of all-out cooperation of the government in promoting interests of the RMG industry abroad. He also congratulated the apparel industry on making outstanding contribution to the total export earnings of Bangladesh that reached USD 52.08 billion in 2021-2022 financial years where apparel industry alone fetched USD 42.61 billion.

They had discussions about the issues, especially with regard to Bangladesh’s LDC graduation, possible changes in the tariff regime in export markets and ways of retaining preferential market access in the post-LDC era.

BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Director Asif Ashraf and Chair of BGMEA standing committee on Foreign mission cell Shams Mahmud were also present.
