BGMEA, SEIP sign deal on skill development for RMG sector

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) have signed an agreement to develop skills of mid-level management and workers of the RMG industry through training.

As per the contract, skill development training will be provided in two years under the tranche-3 of the SEIP project which is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and implemented by the Finance Division of the government of Bangladesh.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and Executive Project Director of SEIP Md. EkhlasurRahman inked the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

BGMEA Vice President ShahidullahAzim and Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on UD-Woven & Knit Md. Nurul Islam were present at the agreement signing ceremony held at the conference of SEIP office in Dhaka on May 24.

Mohammed Yasin, Additional Secretary and DEPD (Public), Md. Khairul Islam, M & E Specialist, Dr. Md. SanwarJahanBhuiyan, Joint Secretary and DEPD (Private-1), and AnarulKabir, Deputy Secretary and DEPD (Private-2), SEIP were also present on the occasion.

Under the project the workers and mid-level management currently employed in garment factories will be re-skilled and up-skilled through training in order to upgrade their skill levels for better productivity and efficiency.

Besides, anyone wishing to work in the RMG sector will be imparted skill training in different trades at both operator and manager levels. The trainees, upon completion of their training, will be placed for jobs in garment factories.
