BGMEA, SGCCI to collaborate on strengthening trade partnership

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association on Thursday held a meeting with a delegation of the Southern Gujarat Chamber Of Commerce and Industry to strengthen trade partnership between the two countries.

BGMEA in a press release said that SGCCI delegation led by its president Himanshu H Bodawala called on BGMEA president Faruque Hassan in Dhaka and discussed creating a platform to exchange knowledge and expertise in design, technologies, machinery and productivity.

They discussed possible collaboration between BGMEA and SGCCI to bring business communities of Bangladesh and India closer in order to explore trade opportunities and seize them, the release said.

The business leaders also focused on ways of increasing more direct business interactions between Bangladeshi RMG exporters and Indian textile manufacturers and raw material suppliers to strengthen their relationship to create a win-win situation for both sides.

They also talked about creating a platform to exchange knowledge and expertise in design, technologies, machinery, productivity, etc, especially by linking BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology and Indian universities, fashion institutes and trade associations like the SGCCI.

BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said that Bangladesh and India were in a suitable position to complement each other in RMG and textile trades.

Since Bangladesh was strongly focusing on diversifying RMG product basket, especially non-cotton and high-value items, in order to move up the value chain, India having a strong textile industry which supplies manmade fibre could support Bangladesh, he said.

On the other hand, India was also a promising destination for Bangladeshi RMG exports which had witnessed a rise in recent years, hence it created opportunities for both countries, Faruque said.

The SGCCI delegation included its secretary Bhavesh M Tailor, treasurer Bhavesh Vallabhbhai Gadhiya, chairman of overseas expo committee Amish H Shah, co-chairman Harshal Bhagat and Bangladesh representative Binty Jahan.
