BGMEA urges Germany to support dev of RMG industry

A high-level delegation comprising the members of German parliament paid a visit to BGMEA on February 25 to discuss potential cooperation and support for the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.

The delegation included Renate Künast, MP; Ria Schröder, MP; Dr. André Hahn, MP; Andreas Larem, MP; Dr. Malte Kaufmann, MP, Member of Budget Committee Paul Lehrieder MdB; German Ambassador to Bangladesh H. E. Achim Tröster, Deputy Head of Mission Jan-Rolf Janowski.

BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali apprised the visiting German parliament members of remarkable progress of the apparel industry, especially its massive transformation into a safe and sustainable one.

He briefed them how the industry had made its mark in the area of environmental sustainability, and were putting constant efforts to make production processes cleaner and energy efficient while recycling waste.

Miran Ali also highlighted the green initiatives of the industry, including UN Climate Charter, Green Button initiative of the German government, Water PaCT.

BGMEA Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan also spoke at the meeting about the BGMEA and industry’s efforts regarding transition towards circularity.

They had discussions about the industry’s vision of moving toward the next level of development through product diversification, technology upgradation and skills development.

The BGMEA leadership called on the German government to provide more support to the industry to enhance its competitiveness and accelerate growth in a more sustainable way.
