BGMEA urges NBR to ease business procedures

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has urged the National Board Revenue (NBR) to eliminate barriers to business procedures, especially customs and bond related issues and make them more simplified for the RMG industry in a bid to capture potential opportunities that lie ahead.

The RMG industry has been able to back on track after addressing mountainous challenges brought by pandemic and the timely support of the government played a crucial role in the strong comeback, he said.

“Business procedures including customs and bond should be eased more in line with emerging situations in order to seize new opportunities created for the industry,” he said while speaking in a meeting with Hossain Ahmed, Member (Customs Export, Bond and IT), NBR in Dhaka on Thursday.

BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, former First Vice Presidents S M Abu Tayeb and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and former Director Md. Munir Hossain were also present at the meeting.

They said it is imperative to remove various customs and bond related difficulties for the garment exporters to remain competitive in the global market and capture new opportunities.

The requested the NBR to take necessary measures for addressing the issues including adding new raw materials and other related materials with their harmonised system (HS) code in the bond licences.

Both policies and procedures should be revised and updated in accordance with market demand and time to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive even in difficult situations, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said.

He also expressed his strong optimism that the support and cooperation of NBR would continue for the RMG industry in the coming days to pave its way toward prosperity.

Hossain Ahmed, Member (Customs Export, Bond and IT), NBR assured the BGMEA leaders of measures to address the problems which were raised in the meeting.

Mia Md Abu Obaida, First Secretary (Customs Export & Bond), NBR and Md. Zakir Hossain, Additional Commissioner, Customs Bond Commissionerate were also present at the meeting.
