BGMEA urges NBR to support RMG industry

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to support the RMG industry in realizing its potential and expediting growth, said a press release.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made the requests at a meeting with  Zakia Sultana, member (VAT and Policy) of NBR at her office in Dhaka.

BGMEA President requested NBR to waive value-added tax on sub-contract manufacturing, as it puts subcontracting factories in financial distress.

The BGMEA leaders called upon the revenue authorities to provide VAT exemption on products and services purchased locally to facilitate the garment industry to grow and sustain the competitiveness in the global market.

NBR Member Zakia Sultana took note of the issues discussed in the meeting and assured the BGMEA leaders of cooperation in this regard.

BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim and Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, Commissioner, Customs Bond Commissionerate, Kazi Farid Uddin, First Secretary (VAT Policy), and Kazi Rezaul Hasan, Second Secretary (VAT Act and Rule) were also present.
