Carnival Chess Festival held

A Carnival Chess Festival held in the capital has thrilled the school students as the participants have revealed their talent in the strategic game.

More than one hundred young chess players took part in the daylong festival at Public Order Management premises in the city’s Mirpur on Friday. Dotlines Group has begun the initiative ‘Carnival Chess’ to popularize the game across the country.

Participants got opportunity to play chess with grand masters. Besides, there were quiz, puzzle, team play options for participating students and their guardians.

Under leadership of Khandakar Kayes Hasan, country’s top  grand masters – Reefat Bin Sattar, Ziaur Rahman and Enamul Hossain Rajib were involved with the Carnival.

The carnival Chess chief coordinator Kayes Hasan said, Bangladesh didn’t see any grandmaster since the year 2008. The game is at the top of popularity in other countries, however, seems to be slowly losing its luster in Bangladesh, he added.

The organizer informed that Carnival Chess will organize chess competitions at school, divisional, national and international levels to generate chess players from grassroots level. It has plans to create content on chess in Bengali language and host chess workshops with grandmasters in various schools and colleges in the country.
