Chinese investors seek BGMEA’s support for MMF industry

Chinese investors have sought BGMEA’s support for establishing an MMF-based fabric industry in Bangladesh.

They made the request when Vice President of Handa Industries Deng Peilei and General Manager of MN Inter-Fashion Limited Takashi Nakahashi met BGMEA’s Acting President Md Shahidullah Azim at the BGMEA complex, read a press release on Sunday.

“Handa Industries is interested to establish an MMF-based fabric factory in Bangladesh. Since BGMEA is the apex association of Bangladesh RMG industry, we require necessary support from BGMEA,” said Deng Peilei.

Meanwhile, Azim said, “BGMEA has already prioritised the non-cotton segment particularly MMF, polyester etc with utmost importance. Since BGMEA envisages exporting 100 billion dollars worth of apparel by 2030 as part of their strategic growth target, there will be a huge opportunity in the non-cotton garment segment, where we need more foreign investments.”

He added that BGMEA will provide all-out support to any kind of foreign investment and joint ventures in the area of non-cotton.

“Handa Industries is a China-based apparel manufacturing company. They have their own manufacturing units in China, Myanmar, and Egypt. They export more than 2 billion dollars worth of apparel to the EU and Japan. On the other hand, MN Inter-Fashion Limited is a Japanese buying house operating its business for more than six years in Bangladesh,” Azim mentioned.

Other officials from BGMEA, Handa Industries and MN Inter-Fashion Limited were present at the meeting.
