Discriminatory DAP to be canceled

Leaders of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) have demanded to cancel the discriminatory zone plan DAP (2022-2035). At the same time, it was demanded to approve the design of the building as per the rules of Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Rules-2008 and Master Plan (DAP)-2010.

Rehab leaders made these demands in a press conference at the capital’s Sirdap Auditorium on Wednesday, August 21. The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) made the demand at a press conference. Rehab president Md. Wahiduzzaman presented the main speech in the press conference. At this time, Senior Vice President of Rehab Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan, Vice President Engineer Abdul Latif, Vice President (Finance) Abdur Razzak, Chairman of Press and Media Standing Committee Muhammad Labib Billah and Directors of Rehab Board of Directors were present.

At the beginning of the speech, Rehab president Md. Wahiduzzaman paid deep respect to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement. He expects that Bangladesh will be transformed into a developed, prosperous and discrimination-free country under the leadership of the chief advisor and young students.

The Rehab President said that the housing sector has progressed through various ups and downs and limitations, but the biggest crisis was created after the notification of the 2022 Detailed Area Plan DAP (2022-2035). The development of Dhaka city has come to a standstill after the passing of DAP, due to which there has been a massive stagnation in the housing sector.

Rehab President said that a beautiful and timely Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Rules-2008 was ignored, and the Master Plan-2010 was canceled unfairly. Through this, some unscrupulous officials work to please a self-interested group supported by the previous dictatorial government with the aim of making the housing sector vulnerable. A few quick fixes have been made within a year of the release of the DAP, but the stagnation of the housing industry has not been resolved and public discontent remains. According to the current discriminatory zone plan 2022-2035, most of the areas of Dhaka city now have about 60% of the building area that was available earlier. As a result, developers are not able to take up any new projects. Individuals who build houses are also not interested in passing the plan. Because in many areas where you could build 8 storey buildings earlier, you can build 4 to 5 storeys. He fears that the crisis will become more serious from the next year and the housing industry will go into a coma.

The Rehab President hopes that the interim government formed as a result of the anti-discrimination student movement will take urgent action in this regard.
